External Policy impact added by Erwan Piriou
Together with few other studies forms part of the evidence package for WHO to recommend against the usage of so-called "tie-breaker" algorithms for HIV diagnosis, as this type of strategy causes false positive diagnoses.
Bilateral meeting dissemination added by Erwan Piriou
Share with MoH in country, with limited effect unfortunately on HIV testing policy. There are several reasons for this, including possibly limited resources allocated to advocacy on this topic, but more so a challenging situation whereby the medical/technical expert in country could be convinced, but do not have decision power regarding diagnostic choices, which are much more influenced by purely financial arguments (at the level of test purchasing).
Other impact added by Erwan Piriou
Used during several MSF-OCA annual laboratory workshop (as part of a larger set of evidence) to explain and illustrate the OCA strategy for HIV diagnosis.
MSF Policy impact added by Erwan Piriou
Adds evidence for the need of using appropriate HIV diagnostic algorithms, including preferably a confirmation test. This is very useful for internal purposes deciding on resource allocation.
Scientific meeting dissemination added by Erwan Piriou
Oral presentation on interim finding of the study, during an MSF symposium at the 2011 ICASA meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Scientific meeting dissemination added by Erwan Piriou
Oral presentation at the ASLM 2014 meeting in Cape Town (http://aslm2014.org/), on 01-Dec-2014, during a session on "HIV Diagnostics and Viral Load Testing".
Title of the presentation: "Time for Change? An Evaluation of the Tie-breaker Algorithm and the Role of Weakly Reactive Test Lines in Contributing to a High Rate of False Positive HIV Results"
Received great interest from WHO-PQ team as well as a.o. USAID people interested in pushing the issue of accurate HIV diagnoses.
